6th Annual Brisket Cook-off Awards!

The results are in! The Judge’s scores have been tallied, the people’s votes counted and it’s time to reveal the winners! This year we had 8 teams compete in the 6th Annual Farmers Fresh Brisket Cook-off. Each team competed in both the Brisket and Baby Back Ribs category. That’s a total of 16 meat samples to try! Our Judges hung in there and did an amazing job judging all the samples and the totals are in……
For the People’s Choice Award for Best Baby Back Ribs, we have….Big Bad Baptist! Head Cook- Lee Meg Petty, with Toby Roderick and their families.
For the Judge’s 2nd Place Award, we have Lil Bit a Texas Bbq! Tony & Lori Candelaria Moya
And the Judge’s 1st Place Awards for the Best Baby Back Ribs goes to…….. Big Bad Baptist! Lee Meg Petty and crew. They not only did you win over the Judges, but also the public. Those were some delicious Ribs!
And now the Winners of the Brisket category-
People’s Choice for the Best Brisket is once again……… Big Bad Baptist! You swept the People’s Choice Award! Way to Go!
Judge’s 2nd Place for Best Brisket is awarded to….D Bar J Catering, John Alvarez! John was determined to place this year and was not deterred when his smoker went down an hour into the competition. He called in a friend’s smoker, one he had never used before, and pulled off some of the best brisket of the day and he takes home the Silver Medal!
And now….. the moment you have all been waiting for…….Drum Roll, Please.
The winner of the 6th Annual Brisket Cook-off for best Brisket does to……..Bootleg BBQ, Josh Toles and family! This is the first year that Josh competed in our Cook-off and he beat out the competition. Josh, it’s an honor to say- Congratulations, we hope to see you back next year to defend your title!
You might think that’s all, but no. This year with the help of the Porky’s Cornhole Club we were able to add a Corn Hole Tournament. We had 19 teams compete in the double elimination tournament. It was a great time for all and they are excited to have this new addition to the event. But only the best team can take home the trophy and First Place prize.
In 5th Place we had a tie, making the prize $10 each. Alec B. & Amy H and Dallas D. & Colton D.
In 4th Place with a prize of $60 each are Roger C. & Stephan P.
3rd Place with a prize of $80 each, we have Alvin & Randy C.
2nd Place with a prize of $90 goes to Daniel and Muddy!
And the 1st Place Award for the Corn Hole Tournament goes to…….John Gage & Robert Chingone, Congrats! You each walk away with $130!

We would like to thank the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce for hosting the Beer Tent and Bottom Shelf Brewery for providing the best Beer around. The funds raised will go towards the Cambers community programs, including Collage Scholarships for local students.
Thank you to Lacey Black and Betty & Eddie Box Jr.. for the wonderful music during our event. Lacey brought us her sweet music from 11-2pm. While Betty and Eddie got us moving from 2-5pm. It was so wonderful to have you both!
Thank you to our Vendors for taking the time to help make our event extra special! I hope you all had a great time and it was well worth it for you all. We had 15 vendor or fundraiser booths with so many amazing creations and products to offer. I will have a separate post dedicated to just our vendors, including photos and where to find them in case you saw something you liked! I’m thinking Christmas shopping! I know I found some unique presents there.
We have to give a huge shout out to our awesome judges who stepped up and ate well over a lb. of meat for the judging! Our judging panel consisted ofMatt Salka, La Plata County Commissioner. Clark Craig, President of the Ignacio Chamber of Commerce, Rick McCune- President of the Vallecito Lake Chamber of Commerce, Brytanny Medved- Youth Director at the Ignacio Community Library, Shauna Branch- Asst. Principal of the Ignacio Elementary School and Tom Dunn- Middle School Social Studies Teacher at Hope Community Christian Academy. Thank you for stepping up guys, you did a great job!
Last but not least, thank you to all the Farmers Fresh employees and their families who volunteered time to work the event and make it such a success. We would not be able to do this without all of you! Our Deli Department really stepped up running the Chile in October-Fest in Farmington on Oct 2nd and the Brisket Cook-off this weekend. Let’s give a round of applause to Selene and her awesome crew!
